What is RF EAS?

Radio Frequency (RF) Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) is a proven and successful concept where electronic sensors alarm when unauthorized RF tagged merchandise is being removed from EAS retail environment.

What is RF EAS Source Tagging?

When merchandise is secured using RF EAS security tags (usually in the form of a label) at the point of manufacture.  The RF EAS tag can be positioned directly onto the merchandise or concealed within or on the packaging.

How does RF EAS work?

RF EAS sensors are located at all the customer exit points. The sensors contain either a transmitter or a receiver.  The transmitter and receivers are tuned to 8.2 MHz as are the RF EAS tags and labels.  When a live tag passes through the sensors it activates a signal to the receiver, which in turn alarms the system.

Where should the RF EAS tag be placed on the merchandise?

Tag placement is specific to the merchandise.  We at Easitag will assist you in the placement of the RF EAS tag.  Inmost assessments samples will be required for testing. Easitag will develop the recommendation for RF EAS tag placement specifications and return the sample to you.

How are the tags deactivated?

The RF EAS tags are deactivated at the point of sale.  The process is electronic and automatically happens as the merchandise passes over a de-activation scanner embedded in the counter.

Will the RF EAS tags distort audio, video or other types of magnetic products?

RF signals do not damage magnetic media. They also will not damage credit cards, which are used in magnetic type readers.

What merchandise should be source tagged?

The retailer will identify high-risk, desirable merchandise that can be easily stolen.

What is tag pollution?

Tag pollution occurs when source tagged merchandise is supplied to a retailer who does not have the RF EAS systems installed. When the RF EAS tagged merchandise is purchased by their customer and not de-activated, the RF EAS tag will cause an alarm when they enter a RF EAS equipped store.  This will not only be an embarrassment to the customer but also have a negative effect on the product brand.
